Journal for the Society of American Music CFP

by justindburton on March 15, 2013

This comes from Mark Katz:

I am pleased to announce a special issue of the Journal of the Society for American Music on music before 1900, guest-edited by Katherine K. Preston.

We will consider any article that has as its focus American music or music in the Americas before 1900. The deadline for submissions is August 15, 2013. All submissions will be peer-reviewed; articles selected for the special issue will appear in the first issue of volume 8, in January 2014.

Article submissions should be sent electronically to:

Prof. Mark Katz
Editor, Journal of the Society for American Music
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Authors should send the following materials: cover letter; abstract of no more than 200 words; article text in MS Word with list of references (.doc or .docx); musical examples (.pdf or .jpg); and figures (.jpg). Electronic images should be sent as separate low resolution jpegs rather than being embedded in the text; ideally each image will be less than 1 MB in size. (If the article is accepted, high-resolution tiff or eps images will be required.) The cover letter only should include the author’s name, mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address. The submission itself should be anonymous throughout the text and notes. Articles should range from about 7,000 to 10,000 words (excluding notes). Longer articles will be considered but may be edited for length.

Thanks and best wishes,

Mark Katz

P.S. If you don’t have a pre-1900 topic, feel free to submit an article for one of the not-so-special issues of JSAM. If it’s about American music, we will consider it.
P.P.S. I make no apologies for cross-posting.

Mark Katz, Ph.D.
Professor and Chair of the Department of Music
Adjunct Professor of Communication Studies

Editor, Journal of the Society for American Music
