Assistant Professor of Music (Music Production & Industry)

The successful candidate will teach courses that serve the concentrations of Music Production and Music Industry, including all levels of Music Recording, Electronic and Computer Music, and Business of Music. In the production area, the candidate should be well versed in a wide range of software and hardware audio systems including Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Max/MSP, Ableton Live, and Reason, with professional experience in the field of audio engineering and production. In the industry area, a background i law, marketing , or management is desired. The ideal candidate will share responsibility for the maintenance and further development of the recording studio and digital music lab.

Terminal degree in music or music technology.

The Music Program at Ramapo College, with its distinctly contemporary orientation, emphasizes creativity and experiential learning in an interdisciplinary and multicultural framework. The program focuses on many forms of contemporary music and digital-music technologies, while cultivating an appreciation for American music, Western art music, and musical traditions from around the world. The major begins with foundational studies in three areas: musicianship, music history and culture, and musical technologies and media. Students select one of four concentrations – Music Studies, Music Performance, Music Production, or Music Industry – all of which offer opportunities for internships, independent projects, and performance. These flexible and interconnected concentrations allow students to develop their interests, talents, and skills in individual ways.

  • ·         Music Studies includes the more interpretive disciplines of music, the craft of writing about music, and preparation for graduate studies.
  • ·         Music Performance is particularly experiential in developing musical skills and communication, and also provides a foundation for students seeking to pursue K-12 teaching.
  • ·         Music Production develops skills in original composition, production and recording techniques, scoring for visual media, and electronic performance.
  • ·         Music Industry focuses on the rapidly changing dynamics of the music business and the relationship of music, business, and technology in the digital media landscape.

Students completing this program will receive a B.A. degree. A minor in Music is available.

The School of Contemporary Arts (CA), established in 1971, is an interdisciplinary arts program providing an understanding of the fundamental traditions of the Fine and Communication Arts while simultaneously preparing students to embrace new means of expression.

Students are afforded the opportunity to develop and communicate ideas in many arts-related disciplines. Excellent instruction as well experiential activities outside the classroom environment provide practical experience. Public presentation and reflection are integrated into the educational process via internships and cooperative learning assignments. Fields include:
