IASPM-US Popular Music Conference

We’re having a conference, and you should come too.

This weekend, 28 February-3 March, we’ll be doing it Popular Music Studies style in Austin, TX. We have a renegade brass band, a Who’s Who panel from Austin City Limits, a cash bar engagement at the Dive Bar, scholars spinning DJ sets at a local club, and wall-to-wall smart popular music analysis spread over the next four days.

We also happen to have more tattoos than your average academic conference, for what it’s worth.

We already kicked things off with the #sonicborders virtual panel collaboration that ran this month at this site and Sounding Out! and the rest starts now.

If you’re on twitter, the event’s official hashtag is #iaspmuscon. I’m thinking of some sort of prize for the best #iaspmuscon tweet of the weekend…

And if you attend, think about writing a review of the event from your own perspective, focusing on what you attended and the themes and ideas that you detected over the weekend. If you want to write, let me know (justindburton@gmail.com). If you don’t get in touch with me, I’m going to awkwardly corner you at some point this weekend and suggest you contribute, so there’s that to look forward to…
