Committee Members Wanted: Guthrie and Sanjek Awards

by justindburton on May 20, 2012

IASPM-US seeks volunteers to serve on its two main prize committees. The first prize committee is the Woody Guthrie Prize for the best book published in popular music studies each year. The second is the David Sanjek Prize for best paper presented at the annual meeting.

The Guthrie Prize committee usually begins its work in the summer, receiving books from publishers, reading them and deliberating.  Typically, the work is completed by mid-autumn, enabling the recipient of the award and any honorable mentions to learn of their achievement and make plans to attend the next conference where the prize will be awarded.

The Sanjek Prize committee usually begins its work in the late winter, receiving self nominations of papers that will be delivered at the conference in the early spring, reading those papers and completing its work before the conference begins.

If you have an interest in serving on either of these committees, please write to Barry Shank at barryshank@gmail.com.
