Current Trends in Ethnomusicological Research –
Fourth International Doctoral Workshop

27th – 30th June 2012
Center for World Music at the University of Hildesheim and the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover

The Center for World Music at the University of Hildesheim and the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover are pleased to announce the Fourth Annual Workshop for PhD candidates in ethnomusicology. The workshop will be directed by Prof. Dr. Philip V. Bohlman (Chicago/Hanover) and Prof. Dr. Raimund Vogels (Hildesheim/Hanover), with a keynote address by Dr. Julio Mendívil (Cologne).

Through paper presentations, discussion, working groups and a keynote lecture, the workshop offers a unique environment for 16 doctoral students to engage in international dialogue and exchange, and expand critical debate on recent research within the discipline. The workshop language – presentations and discussion – will be English. The workshop will take place in Hildesheim. Arrival will be on 27th June and departure on 1st July.

The organizers inivite applications from PhD candidates researching in the field of ethnomusicology or one of its sister disciplines (e.g. musical anthropology). There are no restrictions concerning the current stage of research, the region of study, or the thematic focus.

The Center for World Music and the University of Music, Drama and Media Hanover will cover room and board. Participants are expected to secure funding to cover travel costs themselves, but can apply for extra financial support.

PhD candidates interested in participating should send an abstract of 250 words and a short CV (two pages maximum) by 30th November 2011. Notification of the success of your application will be sent by 10th January. Auditors are also welcome and must register by 1st May 2012, but room and board will be at their own expense.
